Live a Life of Faith

Read: Hebrews chapter 11

Have you ever prayed for something for so long that you started wondering if it was ever going to happen? Maybe you've prayed for a family member, a relationship to be restored, healing, or a situation to change. At some point, waiting can wear you down. You begin to wonder if God heard you or if things will ever be different.

That's one of the things I love about Hebrews 11. It reminds us that the people we read about were real people who experienced real struggles. Abraham and Sarah waited decades for the son God had promised them. They had moments of doubt, but God never forgot His promise. Our faith has to begin with knowing that God is faithful. His promises are only as dependable as the One who makes them, and God does not lie.

But faith is more than believing God can do something. Faith changes how we live. Abraham trusted God enough to leave what was familiar, and later, when God tested him with Isaac, he trusted God enough to surrender the very thing he had waited so long to receive. That's a challenging thought. Sometimes the very thing we prayed for becomes the thing we're afraid to place in God's hands.

Hebrews 11:19 tells us Abraham believed God could even raise Isaac from the dead. His confidence wasn't in what he could figure out. It was in the power of God. I think that's where faith becomes real for us. We trust God when we don't have all the answers. We obey when we don't see the whole picture. We surrender because we believe He is faithful.
Ultimately, our faith rests in Jesus, who died and rose again. The resurrection reminds us that God has power over even death itself.

So what are you holding on to today? What have you been afraid to surrender? Maybe the first step of faith is simply giving Jesus your life again and trusting Him with what comes next. Faith takes God at His Word. It trusts His heart, takes the next step, and leaves the outcome in His hands.

Take a minute to reflect:

Is there a promise of God I need to keep trusting?
Have my circumstances been shaping my faith more than God's character?
Is there something I need to surrender to Him?
What step of obedience have I been putting off?
